2011 PMRPD Foundation Event Illustrates Community Support
POCONO SUMMIT- Plans to surpass last year's numbers exceeded the goals of the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Foundation at 2011's fundraising weekend October 15th and 16th. The community showed their support in both attendance and monetary numbers for the organization. As municipalities brace themselves for 2012 budget deliberations, the PMRPF's efforts to subsidize funding for valuable safety equipment and State of the Art technology is a proven asset to the department and taxpayers. At a time when tax savings per household is imperative, these events to draw alternative revenue is crucial. Volunteers rallied to make the organization's 2 day weekend of events a success with the PMRPF collecting just under $25,000 and $12, 000 of in kind contributions.
Just under 50 men and women teamed up as Four Man Golf Scramble teams enjoyed their chance to win a car from Ray Price Autos on the 15th. Later, the night was filled with good food, great guest speakers: Joe Mazzilli, Lenny DePaul and Roxanne Lopez along with a silent auction at The Pocono Manor's Fireside facility.
The next morning, last year's number of participants doubled as close to 100 runners filled the halls of Pocono Mountain West High School ready to take on the challenge of the 2nd annual 5K Family Fun & Fitness Run. Alex Price of Skytop ran away with 1st place with this year's phenomenal time of 17 minutes for the 5K run!
Leap forward to 2012, as the PMRPF committee has already begun plans for next year with the possibility of a warmer weather event date in sight. The foundation maintains it's constant drive to obtain funds to aid the PMRPD force in effectively serving the community.
Parties interested in supporting the foundation are invited to contact Chief Harry W. Lewis at
570-895-2400 or hlewis@pmrpd.com
